While baseball was young, it barnstormed to sell its product. This sensational, mounted, sepia-toned photo (EX+) melds fascinating turn-of-century elements to promote a California Tour in 1897. The Baltimore Orioles played an "All America" team of other National League stars. The 21 by 17-inch relic features the Orioles' slick shortstop Hughie Jennings, who later became a well-known manager and a Hall of Famer. Also, Joe Corbett (Jim's brother) and Joe Kellley. Two All America members, Jesse Burkett and Jimmy Collins, were also later elected to the Hall of Fame, and Billy Nash and Bill Lange. There's a few fab handlebar mustaches in the bunch, too. This 19th century treasure is marked by the photo studio, Marceau of San Francisco. Get to the real past of our national pastime. Slight restoration to the mount which is VG.
