A sad day in baseball history was April 14, 1911 when the great Indian pitcher Addie Joss died suddenly from tubercular meningitis. Joss, who had a 160-97 career record and an incredible 1.82 ERA (2nd lifetime to Ed Walsh's 1.82), was revered -- baseball waived the 10-year rule to enshrine him in the HOF -- and his teammates postponed their season opener to attend. On July 24, 1911, an All-Star team of elite AL players played the Tribe to benefit Joss' family.
