Lot 1303: 2004 Red Sox Beat the Yankees George Steinbrenner Cartoon Art
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
This hysterical 2003 caricature of George Steinbrenner was not published until the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the classic 2004 LCS comeback from 3 games down. Shown on the verge of imploding, by Providence Journal cartoonist Frankie Galasso, this would have graced the front page in 2003 if the Red Sox had finally beaten the Yankees, but was sadly killed after Aaron Boone upheld the "curse". When the Sox's time came last year, so did the cartoon's, which got its front-page spot after all. Galasso's original color 10 x 13" full color gouache rendering on artist's paper shows The Boss clad in his usual dickie, eyes bulging and fumes shooting from his ears. The artist signed his name and year in black ink on the lower left. Image is mounted within a blue border and displayed under glass in a lovely gold frame sized to an overall 17 x 20". A Picasso for Sox fans, Yankee haters and vice versa.
