Lot 1417: 1964 St. Louis Cardinals World Championship Ring

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $1,000.00
Winning Bid: $6,013.54
Price Realized: $7,186.18
Auction Date:6/26/2005 9:00 PM EST

This sturdy and very rare 1964 St. Louis Cardinals championship ring is a fitting symbol for a team of craftsmen like Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Curt Flood, Ken Boyer, who played with such gritty resolve. The Series in particular belonged to that master craftsman, Gibson, who in three games faced the the aging but still potent Yankees of Mantle, Maris, Howard, etc. It all came down to Game 7, and though he tired a bit Gibson held on for the 7-5 clincher. Owned by Cardnals employee John Lynch, this Balfour 14K white gold ring features a bold red ruby "eye" surrounded by "St. Louis Cardinals, World Champions". The left shank has an engraved "1964" above the team's birds-on-a-bat logo. The right shank has "Doggie" above 2 crossed bats, a ball and laurel leaves. "John J. Lynch" is engraved in scripted lettering on the inside of the ring. Size 11.75. NRMT, with nary a scratch anywhere.
