Lot 1164: 1960 Andy Carey A's Jersey
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Vintage 1960 flannel jersey worn by Kansas City A's 3rd baseman Andy Carey, who was traded by the Yankess for Bob Cerv before the season. Carey left two lasting legacies from his Yankee days -- turning 4 double plays in a game (tying a record for 3Bmen) and eating so prodigiously that the team stopped allowing players to sign for meals. Ecru jersey has stitched-on "Athletics" across chest and "1" on verso in red on black felt, and the venerable elephant logo on the left sleeve. Interior neck tagging is "Wilson [size] 42". "Set 1-1960-1" is cable-stitched in blue on an area of the left lower front that has been ripped by strong game use, an authentic indication of time when baseball was played by very hungry men.
