Lot 360: Vintage Rare Mad Magazine & Comic Book Lot (106)

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $1,000.00
Winning Bid: $1,439.60
Price Realized: $1,720.32
Auction Date:12/19/2004 9:00 PM EST

Tremendous collection of mostly action comic books from the early '50s, though the real finds are 9 early issues of MAD -- including MAD #1, October-November 1952, which in mint conditon is worth over $10,000. The MAD #1 cover reads "Tales Calculated To Drive You...MAD," and "Humor in a Jugular Vein" and the initial pieces include "Enter Cosmo McMoon" and "Crow Vadis?" (Don't look for Alfred E. Neuman; he didn't arrive until issue #21.) V-VG with front and back cover damage though the inside pages are fine except for overall browning. Others MADs are #s 2, 5, 6 (no cover), 7, 9 (no cover), 17, 27, 63. Other super-rare titles include "Detective Comics #171", "Batman #80", "Tales from the Crypt #35", "Lash Larue #55", "Weird Fantasy #14", "Weird Science-Fantasy #28", "Amazing Adult Fantasy #13" and "The Haunt of Fear #19", as well as vintage Disney comic books. Most books run from VG-EX with acceptable cover damage and very nice interior pages.
