ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $618.85
Price Realized: $739.53
Auction Date:12/4/2003 9:00 PM EST

Splendid piece of historicana is an actual Civil War trunk issued by a Union Army officer. The side of the piece is stenciled in black military looking lettering, “Lieut. J.H. Baldwin 18th U.S. Infantry.” The trunk itself is a marvelous dome top covered in off white canvas that has remained in nice condition. Some soiling but overall very good. Marvelous combination of canvas, metal, wood and leather it opens to vivid label from the Boston manufacturer “Easter & Winship…Manufacturers of Sole Leather and Packing Trunks.” The original leather strapping is in remarkable condition for its age. The piece was discovered by a Maine antiques dealer, we have done no further research, giving this very interesting potential.
