Lot 328: Astronaut Jim Irwin Signed Checks (39)
Collection of 39 checks issued by Astronaut James Irwin from 1990-91 (he died prematurely in August 1991). During Apollo 15 in 1971, he walked on the moon which he ultimately viewed as a religious experience. He left NASA in 1972 to do religious work. Many of the checks are for charitable and political contributions, such as the Salvation Army and the Republican National Committee. He gave money to his Church and other causes; you can tell he was a kind and generous man. Of the thirty-nine, all but three are drawn on First Bank located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the others on Kemper Financial. Only one is double-signed, overall the signatures are NRMT as is the condition of the checks. They measure 6x2.75”.
