ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
A genuine museum piece attached to the most impeccable provenance: the signatures on this ball were obtained for display by a renowned collector who personally requested most of the signatures from each player, at a time before such signatures were deemed as valuable as they are today. With vision, preservation and historical significance in mind, he was saavy enough to provide a special pen and specifically requested that they use only this pen. The result - a simply incredible display piece with most of the signatures still in perfect condition, as they are shellacked. 21 total World Champion black ink signatures including Ruth on the sweet spot (faded), Dugan (signed twice), Shawkey, Hoyt, Meusel, Pipgras, Mays, Pipp, & more. Inscribed with “1923 New York Yankees World Champs”. These 1923 Yankees were the first in a long line of world champions. This was also notably the first World Series ever to be broadcast on radio nationwide. Ball is covered with a dark patina from toning. One of the most significant team signed baseballs in New York Yankees history. Included are three mailed, handwritten requests for signatures from the collector (written on postcards) to Pipgras, Gazella, & Shawkey with the positive responses from each of these three players.
