Sterling silver award by Meriden is simply one of the finest baseball trophies extant and upon viewing it, you will see why. Elegant in every way, it is modeled after the Titan, Atlas who was forced by Zeus to hold the weight of the world for all of eternity. Atlas is replaced by a standing baseball player who holds a huge globe designed after a baseball. The ball is a work of art unto itself, intricately detailed with floral design and two early ballplayers on each side. Front engraved lettering reads, "Trophy presented by J.E. Mitchell Co. Fort Worth, Texas to Pennant Winners, North Texas Baseball League, season 1906." Verso engraved "Won by Cleburne." The top of the ball actually lifts off to reveal its hollow center. Top of lid is adorned with two bats and ivy emblem (one of the bats is professionally restored). Manufacture stamp on bottom, "Rogers, Smith & Co. Meriden, CT. 8800 USA." Excellent.
