Lot 45: 1965 "Rubber Soul" Gold Record Award (18x22")

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $2,000.00
Winning Bid: $8,843.87
Price Realized: $10,568.42
Auction Date:6/18/2003 9:00 PM EST

Gold Record Album presented to the most important rock band in the history of the world and for one of their most important records. Rubber Soul is significant in so many ways. It is not just that the songs were incredible (Michele, In My Life, Norwegian Wood) and that this was essentially a songwriter’s album. Most importantly, it marked a time in music where rock 'n roll was for the first time not just tribal dance music and had become a serious art form. Beatles music was not just “Yeah!, Yeah!, Yeah!” and shakes of their hair for the screaming girls, but it was also serious music for adults. Two-and-a-half weeks after its release, "Rubber Soul" was certified gold after selling a million copies. This gold record award was "Presented to The Beatles to commemorate the sale of more than one million dollars worth of the Capitol Records long-playing record album 'Rubber Soul'." In very good condition, this is your chance to own a true piece of historical popular culture on a pantheon scale. 1/2 page
