A fabulous detailed letter with plenty of baseball content written by the deaf mute ballplayer who was able to post big numbers before the turn of the century. Addressed to a baseball researcher, Content includes his commentary facing another deaf mute, Luther Taylor in a game: "[Taylor] met a few mutes at his hotel who told me that Taylor was going to strike me out and otherwise show me up on the morrow, as [John] McGraw told him he was to be the pitcher that day. I told [them] that I did not think he could do it." Another great excerpt regards Hoy's enthusiasm for the game: "Frank C. Bancroft was the Reds business manager for quite a number of years and he was there in my 94, 95, 96, 97 seasons. He used to say that if the Reds would only 'hustle like the Dummy' the club would be higher up." Signed, "Wm. E. Hoy". Letter is dated June 17, 1943. Black fountain pen ink is in EX-MT condition.
