Considered by many to be the most significant nineteenth century baseball card ever produced. The 1869 Red Stockings made history as the first professional club, but also by compiling an astonishing 56 victories before suffering their first defeat. Included on this Carte-de-Visite (French for "calling card") are all ten of Cincinnati’s hired guns including baseball’s first franchise player George Wright along with brother Harry. Image clarity is strong. Only a small crease in the upper right corner disturbs photo. Verso displays the rare Peck & Snyder sporting goods advertisement. Trimmed to 2.5 ”x 4.5”, exhibiting light wear to edges and minor left border creasing this scarce CDV rates an overall EX. A rare relic from the pioneers of our beloved pastime.
