Lot 555: 1940's Joe Louis Boxing Trunks
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Black satin trunks with red trim emanate from the career of Joe Louis during the 1940’s and came out of the famed Mannie Seamon collection. Originally offered as lot A141 at Guernseys in April, 1990 (tag from that sale still attached), trunks bear the Everlast manufacturer’s tag in the center waist. Printed with “Made Expressly for Joe Louis”. Left leg adorned with red embroidered “JL”. Colors have faded slightly with age and trunks show evidence of wear. These are similar to the trunks worn by Louis for his fights with Tami Mauriello and Abe Simon and could possibly be from one of those fights. The absence of any color photos or film makes it difficult to conclude with certainty. LOA from famed boxing expert, Craig Hamilton.
