Lot 1315: 1938 All-Star Game Press Pin
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
The most rare of the All Star press pins, this is the very first year the All-Star press pin was manufactured. Given to media press for one of the most memorable All-Star games in the history of the National Pastime. Most notable was Leo Durocher's bunt, which resulted in 2 unearned runs (one of which was Durocher himself!) on throwing errors by DiMaggio and Foxx. Cincinnati Reds pitcher, Johnny Vander Meer, after entering into baseball immortality by pitching back-to-back no hitters (the only pitcher in MLB history to have done this) in the regular season, would get the win for the NL in the All-Star game. 1.5” pin is in stunning NRMT condition with only slight tarnishing to its back. Reads “Press All Star Game Crosley Field Cincinnati 1938” with Cincinnati’s team logo on the front. Paper backing reads “Bastian Bros. Co. Rochester, NY”.
