William "Honey" Melody was born on January 15, 1884 in Charleston, MA. He began his professional boxing career on November 30, 1901. On October 16, 1906 he won the World Welterweight Title by 15-round decision over the great Barbados Joe Walcott. In the rematch 6 weeks later, he stopped Walcott in 12 rounds. In addition to Walcott, he posted career victories over Matty Matthews & Willie Lewis. He retired in 1913. He died on March 15, 1919 in his hometown. Presented here is a period scrapbook of Honey Mellody. 112 pages of clippings, signed contracts, postcards & letters. This comprehensive scrapbook covers most of the important years Mellody fought (1904-1909). Signed documents include articles of agreement for 1908 fight with Russell, 1907 vs. Donovan, & 1909 vs. Watson. Also includes a one page pencil signed letter, theater appearance program, & a small program for his fight with Fitzpatrick (1904). All items have been glued into the scrapbook. Binding is separated and there are a few loose pages. An extremely rare offering and, to the best of our knowledge, this champion's signature has not been sold at public sale.
