Lot 1597: 19th Century Baseball Tintypes (2)
ITEM DESCRIPTION
One of the many ways in which the American society is perceived and presented, the Tintype became widely popular during the Civil War. More affordable and easier to make than the Daguerreotype or Ambrotype, the Tintype created new possibilities for photographers and perspectives in photography. It was used to depict every aspect of life in America. Here, 2 Tintypes contain photos of unidentified 19th century baseball players in uniform (2 in each photo). These open to 3.5x6.5”. Working clasp to close each one. Both are EX.
