Ship Emulation, dated January 13, 1818, is signed by both James Monroe and President John Quincy Adams. The black fountain pen signatures display fading but maintain perfect form, each grading a 8/10. The document itself (10"x14"), with Official U.S. seal, owns strong text and graphics along with toning and folds, Good-VG. Official notice from the President promoting Alexander Brooks to the rank of Captain is dated July 23, 1812 and signed by James Madison. His black fountain pen signature is lightly faded, grading a 7/10 and the document (14"x18") is in Good condition.
