Invasor Whitney Horse of the Year Shoe

Invasor Whitney Horse of the Year Shoe

2006 Horse of the Year Invasor wore this shoe in most memorable performance in the Whitney Stakes. Invasor, Spanish for “invader” and true to his name, was the reigning 2005 Horse of the Year in Uruguay when he pounced on the North American racing scene in 2006 with victories in the Pimlico Special Handicap and the Suburban Handicap. His invasion continued at Saratoga for a thrilling Aug. 5 Whitney Stakes, where he stumbled leaving the gate, split rivals along the backstretch, then dug in with resolve to win by a nose against Sun King. Invasor continued his six-race winning streak with victories in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the Donn Handicap and the Dubai World Cup before retiring with 11 wins in 12 starts and $7.8 million in earnings. In addition to being named 2006 American Horse of the Year, Invasor was honored as the Champion Older Horse for the year. He now stands in his home country of Uruguay, where he is considered national treasure.Invasor’s Whitney Stakes shoe is mounted on a 7.5x10.5" tooled wooden plaque with brass halter tag nameplate and was secured by his groom. A letter of authenticity accompanying the shoes states the same. An incredible opportunity to own a winning race-worn shoe worn by a Horse of the Year in two countries.
