Impressive 1920s Baseball Slot Machine by Watling
Spectacular and rare slot machine defied the gambling laws of the time and remains an iconic pop culture remnant. Coin-operated wonder beautifully dovetails two national pastimes; the "good" of baseball and the dark side of gambling. [May the force be with you.] From the Al Capone era, it is no wonder gambling sensitive baseball czar, Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis hauled Chicago Cub Mickey Cochrane into his office. He saw a photo in their local Chicago newspaper of Cochrane amiably chatting with Al Capone in the stands at Wrigley Field on game day.It is a well known fact among slot collectors, especially Watling collectors, that this machine was made to compete with the hugely popular Mills "Four Column" baseball slot machine. However, this nowhere reached the popularity of the Mills machine making this far rarer than the Mills. In fact, this very well may be the only known survivor of the four column made specifically to compete with the Mills.Gorgeous machine is working and complete with original baseball reels. Overall excellent condition.
