Curlin Jockey Club Gold Cup Winning Horseshoe

Curlin Jockey Club Gold Cup Winning Horseshoe

Curlin held the title of North America's all-time leading money earner with $10.5 million for an incredible nine years and it took stratospheric purse increases for top horses to finally surpass that long standing mark. The winner of seven Grade I races, including the Dubai World Cup, Breeders' Cup Classic, Preakness Stakes, Jockey Club Gold Cup (twice), Stephen Foster and Woodward Stakes, Curlin became only the fifth horse in Eclipse Award history to be named two-time Horse of the Year in consecutive seasons and held the reign as the world's top ranking horse of 2008. What makes Curlin even more remarkable is the success he's had as a breeding stallion. He's one of the world's most successful stallions, already siring multiple champions, and stands for a fee of $150,000. This horseshoe was worn by Curlin during his last career victory, which came in the 2008 Jockey Club Gold Cup that was run on a surface resembling a swamp after a torrential down pour. The shoe is accompanied by a letter of provenance by Curlin's handler who secured the shoe immediately after he was shod. The horseshoe is mounted on a 12x20" solid cherry plaque with an 8x10" photo of Curlin winning over the sloppy track along with a custom-made metal presentation placard. A lock of tail hair from Curlin, which was removed during his grooming, is included in this auction.
