Circa 1960 Buck Shaw Philadelphia Eagles Stopwatch

Circa 1960 Buck Shaw Philadelphia Eagles Stopwatch

Displayed is a game worn circa 1960 stopwatch worn by the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Buck Shaw. A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Shaw was a star tackle at Notre Dame under legendary coach Knute Rockne. Shaw coached a number of college teams and was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles when they won the NFL 1960 Championship when they defeated the Green Bay Packers (17-13), coached by Vince Lombardi, on Dec. 26, 1960, at Philadelphia's Franklin Field. The watch is 1.75" in diameter. The back of the stopwatch has "Eagles" engraved in script. Marked inside the back plate is Lean & Jones Inc. Base Metal Swiss," and the works are marked "Lean & Jones LTD" and "Swiss Made Seven 7 Jewels Unadjusted." Lean and Jones is a Philadelphia company. The face of the watch reads "Camero/Shock protected 7 Jewels/1/10/Unbreakable Mainspring." According to an Ebay description for a 2007 listing, the watch was found after the 1960 Championship game at Franklin Field by a member of the grounds crew. The grounds crew member tried to return the stopwatch to Shaw, but the coach told the finder to keep the watch. The stopwatch no longer runs. It shows medium use and wear. The stopwatch, with its connections to Buck Shaw and the 1960 NFL Championship, makes for a noteworthy piece of NFL nostalgia.
