Cincinnati Reds Cap Collection (13)

Cincinnati Reds Cap Collection (13)

The Cincinnati Reds are baseball's oldest professional club. This collection of 13 game-issued caps spans over 60 years of Reds history, with most showing use. The first cap, from the late 1940's, Is black with a red "C" and "33" written under the brim. The hat shows use and was most likely worn by Johnny Vander Meer, the only player in Major League history to throw two consecutive no-hitters. The next cap also shows use and is from the 40s, with a dark blue body and a red "C" and brim. The third item originates from the the 50s, the grey body shows use and is highlighted by a red "C" with a blue drop-shadow and a red brim, made by Wilson. Next is an all-red cap with the white wish-bone "C," a hat worn by Cincy in the late 50s. Under the brim, "35" is written, a sure sign of game use. By the 60s, the Reds had adopted a pinstripe look to the hats. Two caps feature the look, both with a red brim. The "C" distinguishes them; a red wish-bone "C" on one and a blue drop-shadow "C" on the other, both show game use. The seventh cap hearkens back to the earlier grey hat, replacing the blue drop-shadow "C" with the red wish-bone "C," and this cap also shows use. An oddity is a green St. Patrick's Day model, distributed in the late 70s by New Era - this cap shows no use. The "Big Red Machine" teams are represented by the ninth cap, with the classic all-red body and brim with the white wish-bone "C," as this cap shows use as well. Items nine through twelve are various styles manufactured by New Era, and were worn by the team throughout the 90s, each show use. The final hat comes from the 60s and was manufactured by MacGregor. It's white with a red "C" and brim but is not game-used. Overall condition of the caps is EX.
