1970 Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier Original Daily News Artwork by Bruce Stark (Article Provenance)

Original pen and ink of Muhammad Ali by Bruce Stark, an award-winning N.Y. Daily News cartoonist and caricaturist who won two Reuben Awards from the New York Cartoon Society as outstanding cartoonist of the year. Stark is most renowned for his heart-breaking drawing of Roberto Clemente (deliberately half-completed), called "Unfinished Business",after the Pirates star was killed in a plane crash. Entitled "And Now, For A Few Million", this fight cartoon was used in November 20, 1970 issue of the Daily News. The back-story for the drawing is that Ali and Frazier, both undefeated, were scheduled to meet in March of 1971 to settle the overall Heavyweight Championship. So Ali, at least in the cartoon, was rooting for Frazier to win his fight against Bob Foster, (which Frazier did) so that the upcoming Ali-Frazier #1 fight would become a colossal CASH match. It did. Large Ali face looking down on Frazier saying "Nice Goin' Joe". Frazier replies "....See Ya at Th' Bank CASHius". Stark's cartoon also featured a "warning" to Ali, "Don't be TOO anxious, Ali. This guy CAN HIT". Stark's warning was prophetic: Frazier won in a unanimous. decision. . Signed "by Stark" at top right, Strathmore stamp on top left. Comes with the page from the exact Daily News article. Framed to 14x16".
