1963 New York Jets First Ever Win Game Football

1963 New York Jets First Ever Win Game Football

After three years with the nickname "Titans", the American Football League's New York team changed its name to Jets just prior to the 1963 season. From the Weeb Eubank collection, this official AFL football was used in the first-ever preseason game using that nickname at the Polo Grounds, and is signed by the famed coach. That exhibition game against the Boston Patriots marked the first win in franchise history under the Jets name, 22-20. Ewbank, who was coaching his first game for the franchise, gained possession of the football and added it to his personal collection. An LOA from the coach accompanies the ball, which shows game use. Coincidentally, the Jets' first regular-season game, just five weeks later, would also come against the Patriots, although the result would be a loss.
