1940s Billy Southworth Boston Braves Game Worn Cap

1940s Billy Southworth Boston Braves Game Worn Cap

One of the most overlooked managerial careers belonged to Billy Southworth, who piloted four National League teams to pennants, including two World Series titles. The former .297-hitting outfielder wore this superlative cap while managing the Boston Braves during the 1940s, perhaps during the 1948 season, which represented the last National League championship in the city's history. This beautiful example shows nice use with a white felt "B" sewn on the front. The leather band is still in EX shape inside. It is a size 7 1/2 and "Southworth" is sewn in the band with red thread. A magnificent vestige of a bygone era. In 13 seasons as a big-league skipper, Southworth compiled an outstanding .597 winning percentage, including a .642 mark with the Cardinals.
