1934 Babe Ruth Signed Autograph Request Cover & Letter (2)

1934 Babe Ruth Signed Autograph Request Cover & Letter (2)

Ask and ye shall receive! That's what one happy collector discovered when he politely implored the most iconic ballplayer of the 20th Century. These two exceptional pieces were signed in bold black ink at the same time between Jan 22, 1934 and Feb. 5, 1934 and have remained together ever since, even being submitted to PSA as a two-piece set. The letter - typed by a fan named Karl C. Albig from Wellsville, NY - reads: "Dear Babe, I am a stamp and cover collector and wonder if you would be so kind as to autograph the inclosed (sic) cover and return to me. Thanking you for any inconvenience that I may have caused you by asking this favor and trusting the new year will bring a new home run record in your favor." And, just as requested, "The Babe" obliged with a beautiful signature below. He then proceeded to sign the "cover," producing another exceptional signature. Both signatures are graded PSA 9 MINT. The lot Includes two full letters from PSA/DNA. As a footnote, Ruth swatted 22 home runs in 1934. Not bad for his last full season but hardly a "new record."
